Are you suffering Post Hurricane Exhaustion?

Many people are reporting feeling emotionally and physically drained. If you feel similarly, you are not alone and these feelings are perfectly normal. I believe we were all affected by anticipatory anxiety prior to Irma. We had a long time prior to prepare and our anxiety was increased by not knowing when the hurricane would hit and exactly where would take the brunt of it. We had just witnessed the disastrous flooding caused by Harvey in Texas and many people were feeling overwhelmed when attempting to make the “right” decision, whether to leave or stay! Hurricane Irma has also triggered traumatic memories of Matthew which was less than a year ago!

There is good reason why you are feeling tired and having difficulty being on top of your game. You may have a lack in concentration, forgetfulness, irritability and finding it challenging to do the things that you know are good for you, e.g. eat healthily and exercise.

Please be gentle and have patience with yourself during this time. Treat yourself as if you were physically sick. Speak lovingly to yourself. Slow down, rest and make sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep per night.

If you continue to struggle, please reach out for support.
