As a St. Augustine Therapist working with weight loss clients, I can tell you that there are many reasons for your weight gain during the COVID-19 pandemic. The question is: what are you going to do about it?
COVID-19 Weight Gain is Similar to “The Freshman 15”
Some liken COVID-19 weight gain to the weight gain that sometimes occurs when students first go away to college, AKA “the Freshman 15.”
Usually, Freshman students gain weight due to additional stress and new freedom from parental guidance. Students are learning how to adapt to their new lifestyle, and choose how, when, and what to eat, without limits like those previously imposed by their parents.
Young adults struggling with weight gain need to learn how to monitor their own choices around food and drinks and make the conscious decision to eat foods that are part of a healthier lifestyle.
Similarly, during the COVID19 pandemic, many people have gained weight due to the profound stress caused by life changes, many of which they have limited control over.
Have you had a lack of social activities, challenging schedules (or no schedule at all), relationship changes or loss, income/job change, parenting challenges, concerns about your children returning to school or being homeschooled, etc.?
